Cracking Office Dress Codes: Small Business Casual

12/29/16

I'm teaming up with T.M. Lewin to help you crack your office dress code. This post is part of a five part series where I'll show you how to dress for different office dress codes - business formal, business professional, business casual, small business casual, and creative. The world of office-appropriate attire is often difficult to crack. Especially when work environments and trends continuously evolve.  You can check out part one of the series - where I tackled the business casual look - HERE and part two of the series where I took on the business professional look HERE.

Today I'm showing you how to dress small business casual. Have you ever worked in a small business casual environment? I did in one of my previous positions. Small business casual is noted as one level down from business casual. For a small business casual look, women can wear more casual fabrics such as cotton. Dark denim is totally appropriate, as well as open toe-ed heels, flat sandals, or wedges. You can also wear shirts in bold patterns or colors. As for the men in the office, small business casual means casual trousers, dark denim, and collared polos.

For my small business casual look, I paired a peplum top with dark pants. Yes, that's tulle you see underneath the top. How cute is that? I love, love, love tulle but let's face it - tulle is not office appropriate. This top is a perfect and subtle way to incorporate tulle into your outfit.  With my suede grey booties, my look was instantly office appropriate.

T.M. Lewin has made office dressing easy and created an easy-to-follow guide for office dressing! Check the guide out below. T.M. Lewin is a British brand based in London specializing in modern work wear for both men and women. The pieces are absolutely beautiful. Some of my favorite small business casual looks looks include this subtle black cardigan. For the men out there, T.M.Lewin is best known for the endless range of men's shirts they offer. For a small business casual look, I love this shirt and this shirt.

Next week, I'll show you how to tackle office dressing for a creative office environment. Be sure to check back next week for some more tips. In the meantime, check out my previous posts on cracking your office dress code here and here.

Holiday Velvet

12/22/16

Is anyone as obsessed with velvet as I am? It's so beautiful and looks instantly elegant. Velvet is great to be worn as a top, bottom, or a dress. If you want to wear something effortlessly stylish to your office holiday party, try velvet.

So, the past few years that I've worked at my current job, I've missed our holiday party. I always happen to be traveling for work. This year, the ladies in my group and I went out for a fancy lunch. It was the perfect excuse for me to wear this velvet top and these gorgeous earrings. I really do wish that velvet was something I can wear all year round, but it's really just appropriate for the winter. But... I've been known to always break fashion rules, so who knows? You might see this velvet top make an appearance on the blog in the summer!

I'll be back to posting my series on Cracking Your Office Dress Code next week. In the meantime, you can read part 1 and part 2 of the series here.

Have you gotten your holiday shopping done yet? I'm almost done and just need to grab a few small things... Nothing like leaving things for the last minute. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season :)  Thanks so much for reading!

Cracking Office Dress Codes: Business Formal

12/1/16

I'm teaming up with T.M. Lewin to help you crack your office dress code. This post is part of a five part series where I'll show you how to dress for different office dress codes - business formal, business professional, business casual, small business casual, and creative. The world of office-appropriate attire is often difficult to crack. Especially when work environments and trends continuously evolve.  You can check out part one of the series - where I tackled the business casual look - HERE.

Today I'm showing you how to dress business formal. Have you ever worked in a business formal environment? My current workplace does not have a business formal dress code and neither did my past workplaces. However, I do occasionally dress business formal for work! Especially when I attend board meetings and conferences, meet clients for an interview for a story I'm working on, or if I'm attending an off-site or on-site meeting. For a business formal look, you should wear a button down/collared top, neat dress pants, and solid colored flats or heels (no sandals!). If you're wearing a skirt, it should be conservative in length. Be sure to wear tights. Always dress business formal for job interviews, important meetings, and upscale work events. Remember that you can never be overdressed :)

For my male readers - a business formal look means a two or three piece suit, black or brown shoes, and a solid colored or subtly patterned tie.

When I dress business formal, I usually stick to black dress pants, a button down shirt, and a blazer. I always keep my jewelry subtle and make sure my hair is neat. Makeup wise- I keep it minimal and stray away from bright lipstick. These black pants are from J. Crew and are my go-to. They're structured like dress pants but are comfortable like leggings. This white button down shirt is from Forever 21 and I wear it with literally everything - I've even dressed it down with ripped jeans.  You don't have to break the bank for a business professional look!

T.M. Lewin has made office dressing easy and created an easy-to-follow guide for office dressing! Check the guide out below. T.M. Lewin is a British brand based in London specializing in modern work wear for both men and women. The pieces are absolutely beautiful. Some of my favorite business professional looks include this white button down and this striped top. For the men out there, T.M.Lewin is best known for the endless range of men's shirts they offer. If you need some holiday gift ideas for the man in your life, my favorite shirts from T.M. Lewin are this one, this one, and this one

Next week, I'll show you how to dress business professional.  Business professional is similar to the business formal look, but down a notch or two. Be sure to check back next week for some tips!  In the meantime, don't forget to check out my business casual look.

Cracking Office Dress Codes: Business Casual

11/18/16

I'm teaming up with T.M. Lewin to help you crack your office dress code. This post is part of a five part series where I'll show you how to dress for different office dress codes - business formal, business professional, business casual, small business casual, and creative. The world of office-appropriate attire is often difficult to crack. Especially when work environments and trends continuously evolve.

Today I'm showing you how to dress for a business casual work environment. I scored this gorgeous black dress at Primark. I actually wore this exact dress when I had engagement pictures taken a few weeks ago. Since the dress is just plain black, I added a fun statement necklace and bold printed flats to elevate my look. A red lip, as always, completed my look.I love this dress because it's so versatile. I also love the gorgeous crochet pattern - it's so timeless. The dress can be dressed up for the office or dressed down for the weekend.

My office is business casual. I usually wear skirts, dresses, and dark pants to work. For a business casual look, you should wear a skirt, dress, or dress pants. If you're like me and love color, be sure to wear solid colors and subtle patterns. Anything too "loud" wouldn't be business casual office appropriate! If you want to make a statement, do it with jewelry. Statement pieces are a definite go. As for shoes, always go for closed-toe heels, flats, or loafers in appropriate colors or patterns. If you need some inspiration, some of my favorite business casual looks that I've worn on the blog are this emerald top and skirt combo, this cream sweater, and this sweater dress.

Luckily, T.M. Lewin made it easy and created an easy-to-follow guide for office dressing! Check the guide out below. T.M. Lewin is a British brand based in London specializing in modern work wear for both men and women. The pieces are absolute beautiful. Some of my favorite business casual looks include this gorgeous dress which would be so perfect for winter with black tights and booties.

Next week, I'll show you how to dress Business Formal. Business Formal is the way to dress for job interviews, important client meetings, or if you're at a conference. Check back next week for more.

Fall Florals

11/1/16

I love wearing floral patterns all year 'round - summer, spring, winter, and especially fall. Here in New Jersey, we've been blessed with a few warmer fall days so it was the perfect opportunity for me to wear this dress without tights. This dress is really versatile! I can wear it in the summer with sandals and even in the winter with tights and a sweater. This dress is another Primark steal... Have I mentioned how much I love that store?

The dress falls a little below my knees. Since I'm petite, I'm always afraid to wear midi dresses but short girls CAN wear midi dresses! My advice - make sure the dress doesn't have a crazy pattern which can make you look shorter. Also, nude shoes create an illusion of elongated legs.

How has your week been? It's been a whirlwind last few weeks for me with work and life. I'm so happy to say that my wedding planning has been going great. All of my big vendors are booked and I'm so relieved. Now it's just (hopefully) smooth sailing for the next year. Just a little over a year till I tie the knot! We had our engagement shoot this past weekend and here's a preview of some of the pictures, if you'd like to see.

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great week :)

Lace & Geometric

10/12/16

I'm really loving this weather! It's been beautiful here in New Jersey. I guess you can say I've been trying to hold onto Fall with my outfits. I picked up this sleeveless top for next to nothing ($3) at Primark and paired it with black pants and sandals. Don't you just LOVE when you snag something for a great price? Can I just say I'm obsessed with Primark? A lot of my friends talk about the Primark stores they've been to in London. Lucky for me, Primark just opened a store in NJ. I took a trip and got a ton of stuff for really great prices.

As you know, I love pieces with versatility. I can easily pair this top with a long cardigan and boots to wear in the colder months. Or tuck it into a pencil skirt to wear to an important meeting. I was really drawn to the two different patterns on this top. The lace-y top part and the geometric bottom part work really well together!

Can you believe it's October already? This summer flew by, this week is flying by, and this year is flying by. Ah! Thanks so much for reading!

'90s Comeback

9/26/16

The slip dress has made a serious comeback since the 90s. It's been all over the runways, celebrities, and models. I've seen Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts, and more take on this stylish trend. There are so many ways to style a slip dress. You can throw on a blazer over it with pumps for a stylish office look. You can wear it with a leather jacket for a night out or with a chunky cardigan for a dinner date.

My favorite way to wear a slip dress is over a t-shirt. What an easy and put together combo. It's chic, stylish and most importantly...office appropriate! Do you like how I took on the trend?

I picked up this little number at Target a few weeks ago. I love the color - olive is perfect for fall! The dress is also versatile. I can wear this throughout the fall and winter seasons with tights or leggings.  I'm excited to wear it on weekends too with crisp white sneakers!

Stripes Forever

9/8/16

Hi Friends! It's been awhile! Life has been pretty crazy. This summer flew by and I can't believe the unofficial end of summer was this past weekend. Summer isn't officially over till the first day of Fall in a few weeks, so until then, I'm scrambling to wear my summer inspired clothes. That means dressing a little nautical with stripes and sandals.

I picked this top up at Madewell a few weeks ago. For obvious reasons. It has stripes- my favorite pattern and I love the tie at the top. I actually had my eye on this shirt for a long time and I finally just decided to get it. It got a lot of wear this summer - I wore it with denim cutoffs and white shorts on the weekends. In the office, I paired it with black pants and white sandals.

How do I plan on wearing this top for the colder months? I'll tuck it into black pants, throw a long cardigan over it and throw some boots on. With a top knot and some red lipstick, the look will be complete.

Now that it's September , I'm really looking forward to boots and sweaters and scarves. Can't wait! Thanks so much for reading :)

Summer Staple

8/12/16

Do you have a summer staple? Mine is J. Crew's muscle tee! Comfortable, sooo soft, and versatile. I wore it to work last week and then wore it with jeans and a statement necklace during the weekend. I ordered it a few weeks ago when J.Crew was having a super sale and now I'm obsessed. I can't get enough of these tee's. There's a ton of colors. I'll definitely be wearing these all throughout the fall and winter too with a cardigan.

What other summer pieces do you love? I'm also a big fan of light and airy dresses and printed pants like the ones I'm wearing here from Loft. Speaking of summer... I can't believe that summer is nearly over. This summer literally flew by! I must say that I'm looking forward to fall and wearing sweaters, chunky tights, and boots :)

Thanks so much for reading. Have a great weekend!

Teal Party

7/25/16

Hi friends! I am so sorry for my hiatus (once again). Life has just been so crazy lately and it's been hard to keep up with work, wedding planning, other peoples weddings/bridal showers/baby showers/engagement parties...etc. I am so happy to say that in these past few weeks, I've gotten the bulk of my wedding planning done! My venue and date are secured. I've got a photographer and cinematographer, a DJ, a hair and makeup artist, and a hotel for my out-of-town guests. I love crossing things off my list. What's next? A florist and decorator. I must say that I am having SO much fun with planning!

Now, onto my outfit! The other day I went to Panera - I was craving their Fuji Apple Chicken Salad. Next door to my local Panera is a Banana Republic. I saw some SALE signs plastered on the window and of course, I just couldn't resist. I walked out with this fun top and a few more cute outfits I can't wait to share with you! I'm swoooooning over the color of this pleated top. How gorgeous is it? For work, I dressed it up with black pants and strappy sandals. A bright coral lip, a fun necklace, and a top knot completed the look. I definitely plan on dressing this top down with denim cutoffs. I love that this top seasonal. It can be worn all season round. It can be dressed up or dressed down. The cut on this top is so feminine and flattering. It comes in black too! The top IS sheer, so I wore a tank underneath. It runs a little big, so size down!

Are you keep cool in this heat? I'm basking in the air conditioning both at home and at work. It's too hot to be outside! Thank you so much for reading! I'll be back next week :)

Flowers

6/15/16

Hi friends! I'm so sorry for my hiatus. I don't have any exciting excuse as to my whereabouts other than the fact that I've been SO insanely busy. Work has been so crazy - I've been working on a lot of really fun projects. Then there's wedding planning which has been keeping me busy. Plus, there's been graduations and weddings and bridal showers and baby showers to attend!

Anyway. On to my outfit. Guys, I am obsessed with this dress. I guess it's no secret that I love, love, love dresses that are loose fitting and a little baggy. I absolutely fell for this dress. I love the way it fits, I love the bright colors, and I love the pattern. I paired it with my nude feels (I didn't have a pedicure!), a bold lip (duh), and a turquoise stone necklace that I stumbled upon when I was cleaning my room. Don't you love it when you find treasures like that when you least expect it?

I actually wore this dress on one of the cooler days we had a few days ago. The dress is definitely lightweight enough where it can still be worn all summer long. I wore the dress to a friends baby shower a few weeks ago as well. It's a really versatile dress and I love that!

Have a wonderful week! Thanks so much for reading :)

Springtime Blazer

5/26/16

I am loving this warm weather! I always find it a little difficult to dress for work when it just starts getting warm. I'm not quite ready to break out my summer dresses, but I'm definitely ready to put away my winter tights and bulky sweaters.

The solution? This gorgeous long, sleeveless blazer. It's the perfect length for my petite frame, lightweight enough to wear when it's 85 degrees outside and 100% office appropriate. All check marks checked off! I love how structured the blazer is. I can also see myself wearing this outside of the office with high-waisted jeans, a crop top, and sandals. It can also be worn with a dress for important meetings.

Are you excited for the long weekend? I can't wait! I don't have much planned other than a few bbq's. I definitely see a lot of (much needed) rest and relaxation in my future for this weekend.

Thank you so much for reading :)

Office Kimono

5/12/16

Hi Friends! Happy Friday Eve! Sorry for the hiatus. I have a good excuse though. I've been a busy little bee! I've been wedding planning. I'm happy to say that my venue, photographer, and cinematographer are all booked. We're now on the hunt for DJ's. One thing at a time! Life has been crazy and stressful lately. Work has been very busy and I've been spending most of my free time consumed in wedding planning

Lately, I've really been drawn to no-fuss outfits for the office. I purchased this gorgeous white kimono a few weeks ago when Loft was having a super sale. I kept the outfit all black and white with a bold lip. This office was effortless. It was easy but still put-together and stylish.

I must mention how freakin' comfortable the kimono was. Usually, the first thing I do when I get home from work is change into a t-shirt and leggings. The kimono was so comfortable that I actually kept it on allllllllll night. I love the crisp white color and how it can be dressed up or dressed down. I know I'll be wearing this to work A LOT, but also on the weekends with jeans and sneakers.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Thanks so much for reading :)
