Pop of Red

I love adding a little pop of color to my work outfits. Adding a bright belt, bright shoes, or a bright lipstick adds a little fun to any outfit.

This dress is another one of those pieces that I  always forget about. When I put it on the other day, I realized that it needed something extra, so I threw this red belt on and added bright red lipstick. My go-to red lipstick is "Ruby Woo" by Mac. It literally stays on ALL DAY. I don't even have to reapply after meals. I really think it's one of those colors that everyone can pull off.

Weekends just seem to fly by don't they? My weekend was spent enjoying beautiful weather, going to a Rutgers football game, making this delicious pasta dish, and reading this book. Monday's are the worst, but today is National Coffee Day, and I can't think of a better way to start a Monday off than with free coffee! Cheers to free coffee! Happy Monday, friends :)

Orange You Glad

In the early fall months, I love wearing bright colors. It's my way of saying farewell to summer. I love colors that pop and compliment sun kissed skin. Orange is one of those colors. The top I'm wearing here is the only item of orange clothing I own! I'm going to have to change that because I'm loving how this color looks on me. I went a step further and also wore orange lipstick.

Guys, these shoes though. I'm in love. I literally felt like a million bucks walking down the street in these shoes. They're so stylish, chic, can be worn with pretty much anything and they're comfortable!

Mondays are so rough aren't they? It was so tough to get out of bed this morning. I think I'll need more than one cup of coffee this morning! What really brightens up any Monday is a little online shopping. If you love orange as much as I do, check out some of my favorite favorite orange picks here

Pattern Play

Patterns, patterns, and more patterns. I'm a prints girl. I prefer fun and loud prints over solid colors. I love dresses that make a statement like this one. This dress, though...guys, I'm obsessed!

Number one : It looks like two different dresses sewn together.

Number two: It's versatile. I wore this dress last winter with tights, booties and a sweater. It's multi-seasonal.

Number three: Despite that half the dress is white, you can't see my underwear :)

This week has been dragging by and I'm so glad that it's almost Friday. I don't have much planned this weekend. I'm loving the sound of laying around on the couch while reading this book, making these doughnuts, and shopping this collection

Dress: Old from Flourish Boutique. I'm loving this one  and this one

Ask the office fashionista - Job Interview

Here's a letter I received via email from one of my readers. If you're seeking fashion advice, click here to find out how to be featured! Check out past "Ask the Office Fashionista" questions here

Dear Office Fashionista,

I have an upcoming job interview at a company I'd die to work for. What do I wear?! It's a successful fashion start-up, and they have a strong social media presence that constantly gives inside looks into the company, so I know that their employees dress very casually on the job. I want to look professional, but I also know that in start-up culture, it's very important for potential employees to fit in. If I wear a full-on suit, I think I'll look out of place, but I don't want the hiring managers I meet with to think I'm dressed too casually. Plus, it's the fashion world, so I need to look cute. Help!

The Confused Candidate

Dear Confused Candidate,

This is tough! You want to look cute, but professional and polished at the same time. I think I can help. Below, are some foolproof tips that will be sure to impress hiring managers.

1). When in doubt, wear black! Black is always professional and chic. You can't go wrong with black.
2). Be sure to reflect the aesthetic of the company you're interviewing with. For example, if you're interviewing for a position at a jewelry company try and wear a piece of jewelry that reflects their collection. You should definitely make it known that you've studied the collection and understand the brand.
3). Carry a stylish bag or wear sharp shoes.
4). Look clean. You should have a freshly polished nails and a sleek hairstyle.

Here are some ideas!

White Out

The problem with September is that I never know what to wear. It's a very unpredictable month when it comes to weather. The first few days of September, it was really hot in NYC. Like, hotter than it had been all summer. Continuing to be a fashion rule breaker, I wore this easy, white and blue striped dress with tan d'orsay flats last week. The shoes kept my unpolished toes hidden and the lightweight material of the dress kept me cool. Suddenly, this week, the hot  September days became cool ones. Yesterday, I found myself reaching for my leather jacket. I'm sad to see summer go but I'm so happy leather jacket season is here :)

My hair in this post is so easy, cute and is a great style for day 2 (or 3...or 4) hair. Tie your hair into a low ponytail, divide it into two even pieces and knot them twice. Then twist around and secure with bobby pins. I did a deep side part, but a middle part would look great too.

This past weekend was a fun one. I spent 48 hours in Nashville with a few girlfriends. It was one of the best weekends I ever had. We ate a ton of yummy food (biscuits & gravy, chicken & waffles), listened to really great live music and did some sightseeing. I posted a few pictures of my trip on Instagram. If you're looking for a weekend trip - I highly recommend Nashville!

Rule Breaker

I'm breaking some major rules. I'm wearing white AFTER Labor Day. Today's the first unofficial day of Fall. But the weather doesn't seem to think so. It's HOT, HOT, HOT today. Just walking to work had me sweating from head to toe. This morning, I reached for white pants. They're slouchy but not sloppy and just seem to fit perfectly. I found this shirt way back in the confines of my closet. It's just the right shirt for that transitional summer to fall time.

I had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend. It was filled with BBQ's, shopping, and relaxing. I can't wait to share some of my new purchases on the blog. Cheers to fall, pumpkin spice everything, and breaking fashion rules.

I'm hoping I can get past this entire workday without spilling anything on my pants!
