Flower Power

I came across this shirt while doing some spring cleaning. It was buried deep underneath stacks of tops in my dresser. I have no idea when I got it or where I got it! I gave it a good wash and iron and decided to bring it back to life. There are things in my closet that I haven't worn in years and probably won't ever wear again. So last week, I spent my Friday afternoon going through clothes - donating some, tossing some, and keeping most. This may sound totally silly, but I feel like I have a "relationship" with some of my clothes. This off the shoulder green top I have? I wore it on my first date with my boyfriend. The black J.Crew pants I have? I wore those when I went on my first job interview. The pink shirt dress I have? I wore that for my first blog post! I could go on forever..

So, I am LOVING this skirt. It's so fun, flowy, and an appropriate length! I actually purchased the skirt weeks ago and then completely forgot about it. I have so many ideas of how to style it. I have plans to wear it with a crop top for a summer dinner date by the beach, to wear it with cut-out booties on a cooler, rainy summer day and to wear it with tights and oxfords in the winter.

P.S. - I'm reading this book for my book club and can't put it down. Check it out!

Repeat Offender

Sometimes working in New York City is draining. It's always go-go-go and I barely have time to breathe. My job is very high pressure - especially in the summer, its our busiest time! BUT. Gorgeous days like today make me so thankful that I work in such a beautiful and bustling city. Jessi and I stumbled across this cute little park during a lunchtime walk. The sun was shining, people were laughing and eating pizza on the benches, and models strutted by in their stilettos. Oh NYC, I love you (most of the time).

I'm a repeat offender - I previously wore this top here with jeans and canvas flats. I wanted to remix it in today's outfit by wearing it with a more "office friendly" look. The top is one of my best purchases. I'm not lying when I say that I wear it ALL the time! I even wore it while working out the other day. This time, I paired the top with a fun skirt, a statement necklace, and black flats.

My hair is just a dutch braid that I braided halfway across my head. A dutch braid is just like a french braid, but the outside pieces go under the middle piece. It's a great hairstyle to get your hair out of your face and for day two four hair.

WIND. The wind was just not working for me when these pictures were taken. Is it too much to ask for to have the wind blowing in the right direction and my hair flowing like a shampoo commercial? Welllll, the opposite happened. My hair was getting stuck to my lip gloss (ladies, isn't that the worst thing ever?), my sunglasses almost flew off my face, and my 4'9" frame almost took off with the wind.

Now ... for my outfit. I love color but most days I find myself reaching for black. Black is so timeless and so classic. I feel like black makes almost anything instantly work appropriate. Today, I was craving a pop of color though....

Thanks for making me look silly in all my pictures, wind!

Elsa Braid

While I was browsing beauty blogs the other day, I saw this gorgeous hairstyle - Elsa inspired braid from the movie Frozen. This hairstyle is a little tricky but with some practice (umm, a TON of practice), I finally got the hang of it. I didn't do a perfect job, but I love the way it frames my face. It's a great hairstyle to get your hair out of your face. I did it while my hair was still wet which I found the easiest. You can find a tutorial here.

Super laid back outfit today for a bit of a gloomy day! Oversized sweater, slip on sneakers, and cuffed jeans. I'm thankful that I work in an office where it's fine to dress a little on the casual side.
I can't wait for the weekend. I'm not doing anything too exciting, but I can't wait to sleep-in, watch Orange is the New Black (which returns TOMORROW!), and make these yummy little guys.  In honor of OITNB returning, I've created a fun outfit board of my favorite orange looks. Because, guys, orange IS the new black and is the perfect summer look for work and play. Click here to check it out & details on where to purchase.

Happy Weekend!
