Cracking Office Dress Codes: Business Formal

12/1/16

I'm teaming up with T.M. Lewin to help you crack your office dress code. This post is part of a five part series where I'll show you how to dress for different office dress codes - business formal, business professional, business casual, small business casual, and creative. The world of office-appropriate attire is often difficult to crack. Especially when work environments and trends continuously evolve.  You can check out part one of the series - where I tackled the business casual look - HERE.

Today I'm showing you how to dress business formal. Have you ever worked in a business formal environment? My current workplace does not have a business formal dress code and neither did my past workplaces. However, I do occasionally dress business formal for work! Especially when I attend board meetings and conferences, meet clients for an interview for a story I'm working on, or if I'm attending an off-site or on-site meeting. For a business formal look, you should wear a button down/collared top, neat dress pants, and solid colored flats or heels (no sandals!). If you're wearing a skirt, it should be conservative in length. Be sure to wear tights. Always dress business formal for job interviews, important meetings, and upscale work events. Remember that you can never be overdressed :)

For my male readers - a business formal look means a two or three piece suit, black or brown shoes, and a solid colored or subtly patterned tie.

When I dress business formal, I usually stick to black dress pants, a button down shirt, and a blazer. I always keep my jewelry subtle and make sure my hair is neat. Makeup wise- I keep it minimal and stray away from bright lipstick. These black pants are from J. Crew and are my go-to. They're structured like dress pants but are comfortable like leggings. This white button down shirt is from Forever 21 and I wear it with literally everything - I've even dressed it down with ripped jeans.  You don't have to break the bank for a business professional look!

T.M. Lewin has made office dressing easy and created an easy-to-follow guide for office dressing! Check the guide out below. T.M. Lewin is a British brand based in London specializing in modern work wear for both men and women. The pieces are absolutely beautiful. Some of my favorite business professional looks include this white button down and this striped top. For the men out there, T.M.Lewin is best known for the endless range of men's shirts they offer. If you need some holiday gift ideas for the man in your life, my favorite shirts from T.M. Lewin are this one, this one, and this one

Next week, I'll show you how to dress business professional.  Business professional is similar to the business formal look, but down a notch or two. Be sure to check back next week for some tips!  In the meantime, don't forget to check out my business casual look.

Cracking Office Dress Codes: Business Casual

11/18/16

I'm teaming up with T.M. Lewin to help you crack your office dress code. This post is part of a five part series where I'll show you how to dress for different office dress codes - business formal, business professional, business casual, small business casual, and creative. The world of office-appropriate attire is often difficult to crack. Especially when work environments and trends continuously evolve.

Today I'm showing you how to dress for a business casual work environment. I scored this gorgeous black dress at Primark. I actually wore this exact dress when I had engagement pictures taken a few weeks ago. Since the dress is just plain black, I added a fun statement necklace and bold printed flats to elevate my look. A red lip, as always, completed my look.I love this dress because it's so versatile. I also love the gorgeous crochet pattern - it's so timeless. The dress can be dressed up for the office or dressed down for the weekend.

My office is business casual. I usually wear skirts, dresses, and dark pants to work. For a business casual look, you should wear a skirt, dress, or dress pants. If you're like me and love color, be sure to wear solid colors and subtle patterns. Anything too "loud" wouldn't be business casual office appropriate! If you want to make a statement, do it with jewelry. Statement pieces are a definite go. As for shoes, always go for closed-toe heels, flats, or loafers in appropriate colors or patterns. If you need some inspiration, some of my favorite business casual looks that I've worn on the blog are this emerald top and skirt combo, this cream sweater, and this sweater dress.

Luckily, T.M. Lewin made it easy and created an easy-to-follow guide for office dressing! Check the guide out below. T.M. Lewin is a British brand based in London specializing in modern work wear for both men and women. The pieces are absolute beautiful. Some of my favorite business casual looks include this gorgeous dress which would be so perfect for winter with black tights and booties.

Next week, I'll show you how to dress Business Formal. Business Formal is the way to dress for job interviews, important client meetings, or if you're at a conference. Check back next week for more.

Fall Florals

11/1/16

I love wearing floral patterns all year 'round - summer, spring, winter, and especially fall. Here in New Jersey, we've been blessed with a few warmer fall days so it was the perfect opportunity for me to wear this dress without tights. This dress is really versatile! I can wear it in the summer with sandals and even in the winter with tights and a sweater. This dress is another Primark steal... Have I mentioned how much I love that store?

The dress falls a little below my knees. Since I'm petite, I'm always afraid to wear midi dresses but short girls CAN wear midi dresses! My advice - make sure the dress doesn't have a crazy pattern which can make you look shorter. Also, nude shoes create an illusion of elongated legs.

How has your week been? It's been a whirlwind last few weeks for me with work and life. I'm so happy to say that my wedding planning has been going great. All of my big vendors are booked and I'm so relieved. Now it's just (hopefully) smooth sailing for the next year. Just a little over a year till I tie the knot! We had our engagement shoot this past weekend and here's a preview of some of the pictures, if you'd like to see.

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great week :)

Lace & Geometric

10/12/16

I'm really loving this weather! It's been beautiful here in New Jersey. I guess you can say I've been trying to hold onto Fall with my outfits. I picked up this sleeveless top for next to nothing ($3) at Primark and paired it with black pants and sandals. Don't you just LOVE when you snag something for a great price? Can I just say I'm obsessed with Primark? A lot of my friends talk about the Primark stores they've been to in London. Lucky for me, Primark just opened a store in NJ. I took a trip and got a ton of stuff for really great prices.

As you know, I love pieces with versatility. I can easily pair this top with a long cardigan and boots to wear in the colder months. Or tuck it into a pencil skirt to wear to an important meeting. I was really drawn to the two different patterns on this top. The lace-y top part and the geometric bottom part work really well together!

Can you believe it's October already? This summer flew by, this week is flying by, and this year is flying by. Ah! Thanks so much for reading!
